Kar-go uses a combination of advanced robotics and driverless vehicle technology, to remove up to 90% of the cost associated with the last mile of delivery. Through our proprietary intelligent package management housed in an electric autonomous vehicle, Kar-go streamlines the process. Our system is optimised to autonomously drive on un-marked roads making the vehicle perfect for solving the challenge of last mile deliveries in residential areas as well as urban environments.

Our vehicles are designed to be a fully-autonomous system that expects the vehicle's performance to equal that of a human driver, in every driving scenario. Within the vehicle is a system of compartments and each compartment contains packages belonging to different customers. As the vehicle arrives at each delivery address, the system automatically selects the package belonging to the corresponding customer for delivery.
Kar-go's unique approach allows user to be able to deliver to a person so long as they are in the catchment area. The receiver does not necesarrily have to be at home to receive their parcel. The technology allows the vehicle to deliver to people and not to addresses. A receiver is able to see where their delivery is in real time, this making the 'missed delivery' cards a thing of the past.
The full vehicle - from chassis to all the electronics and control systems -is manufactured here in the UK. All our chassis are built on site by highly experienced engineers using certified materials that conform to all British and European standards. Our AI chip is an NVIDIA Drive supercomputer which combines with our proprietary neural networks and software stack - and all powered by Tesla batteries.
SAFETY ABOVE EVERYTHING
We designed Kar-go to be, not only the world’s best autonomous delivery vehicle, but also the world's safest. Kar-go is particularly good at navigating to make deliveries in residential areas where roads are often bad or unmarked. Equipped with sensors and software designed to detect pedestrians, vehicles, cyclists, roadworks and pets, our Kar-go vehicles can see in all directions up to 100 meters ahead at all times. What's more, our proprietary software and sensors even allow our vehicles to see behind parked vehicles..
The brain of our vehicle, the NVIDIA Supercomputer sits in an enclosed area closer. This is where all the processing happens. We combine deep learning, sensor fusion, and surround vision to create a new type of vehicle. It is capable of understanding in real-time what's happening around the vehicle, precisely locating itself on an HD map, and planning a safe path forward. Designed around a diverse and redundant system architecture, we use ASIL-D, the highest level of automotive functional safety.

The vehicle is designed from the ground up to be one of the safest cars on the road. With no human passenger in the car, all the focus and complexity is on making other road users safe. The unique electric drive-train that sits beneath the car’s aluminium parcel cell in its own subframe, creates a centre of gravity which keeps the vehicle fixed on the ground at all times.
CONTROL AND POWER
We have a unique motor configuration which provides regenertive braking, by taking advantage of the weight of the parcels in the vehicle. This is all controlled by an algorithm to make it more efficient than any human driver enabling Kar-go to travel for as little as 1.2pence per mile.
A SAFE ON WHEELS
The parcel cabin is designed to hold high value goods. It is so secure it is best described as a "safe-on-wheels". We designed and built a safe way for the intended receiver to be the one who gets their parcel. Once verified, the parcel compartment opens up and the correct parcel is picked and handed to the receiver.
We chose NVIDIA as a hardware partner due to their collaborative approach. They provide a unified architecture, which means deep neural networks can be trained on a system in the datacenter and then deployed in a car running the Drive PX Series hardware. The DGX series of servers reduce time spent training neural network in the data center from months to just days. The resulting neural net model runs in real-time on DRIVE hardware inside the vehicle. In 2017 Academy of Robotics became a part of the NVIDIA Inception Incubator.
