LIVING MEMORY WALL

RAF Neatishead • Remembrance 2025

Discovery in the bunker Goodbye my friend message

Click image to reveal what we found →

Hidden deep within one of the bunkers was a farewell a handwritten note left behind, a quiet goodbye in danger of being lost forever. As part of our conservation efforts, we want to preserve not only this voice, but the voices of all who served and continue to serve. We now invite you to add your own thoughts and voices.

Throughout October and into Remembrance Week, we’re inviting all veterans, serving personnel, and especially those who served at RAF Neatishead along with their families who can demonstrate a direct connection to inscribe their memories and messages underground on the bunker walls. Your words will be permanently preserved with museum-grade varnish and lighting. We hope this will become an annual ritual, allowing us to create a giant canvas mural wall. Facing your wall of service, local schoolchildren will create their own tributes of gratitude two generations connected through these concrete chambers. Veterans lead; the next generation follows with respect and remembrance, and pride in a history that is proudly British and enduring.
(The completed murals will be unveiled to the public on a special open day on 14 November 2025.)
