Kar-go uses a combination of advanced robotics and driver-less vehicle technology, we remove up to 90% of the cost associated with the last mile of delivery. Kar-go streamlines the process by introducing an electric, autonomous vehicles with our intelligent package management. Our system is optimised to autonomously drive on un-marked roads, making the vehicle perfect for deliveries in residential areas.This vehicle will be launched in Late 2018 under pilot schemes with some of Europe’s largest retailers and FMCG brands.

The autonomous future of local delivery

Our vehicles are designed to be a fully-autonomous system that expects the vehicle's performance to equal that of a human driver, in every driving scenario. Within the vehicle is a system of compartments and each compartment contains packages belonging to different customers. As the vehicle arrives at each delivery address, the system automatically selects the package belonging to the corresponding customer for delivery.

Kar-go's unique approach allows user to be able to deliver to a person so long as they are in the catchment area. The receiver does not necesarrily have to be at home to receive their parcel. The technology allows the vehicle to deliver to people and not to addresses. A receiver is able to see where their delivery is in real time, this making the 'missed delivery' cards a thing of the past.

Under The Hood

We manufacture the full vehicle on site, this is from the chassis, to the body and control systems which sit between the batteries, motors and all vehicle electronics. All chassis’ are built on site by highly experienced engineers using certified materials that conform to all British and European standards. Our AI chip is an NVIDIA Drive supercomputer with our own neural networks and software stack, all powered by Tesla batteries.

We designed Kar-go to not only be the world’s best autonomous delivery vehicle but also, the worlds safest. Our vehicles have sensors and software designed to detect pedestrians, vehicles, cyclists, road work and pets, the vehicles can see in all directions up to 100 meters ahead at all times. Kar-go designed to be a vehicle for autonomous delivery, is particularly good at navigating residential areas where roads are often bad or unmarked. We combine this with proprietary software and sensors that allow our vehicles to see behind parked vehicles.

NVIDIA DRIVE SERIES

POWERFUL SUPERCOMPUTER

The brain of our vehicle, the NVIDIA Supercomputer sits in an enclosed area closer. This is where all the processing happens. We combine deep learning, sensor fusion, and surround vision to create a new type of vehicle. It is capable of understanding in real-time what's happening around the vehicle, precisely locating itself on an HD map, and planning a safe path forward. Designed around a diverse and  redundant system architecture, we use ASIL-D, the highest level of automotive functional safety.

We have over 12 sensors on the vehicles as well as lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors. This allows algorithms to accurately understand the full 360-degree environment around the car to produce a robust representation, including static and dynamic objects. These sensors include our own sensor we designed patented, this sensor allows us to spot children and small animals better than any other vehicle in residential areas.

STABILITY

UNIQUE CHASSIS

We design and build the Kar-go chassis on site, the vehicle is designed from the ground up to be one of the safest cars on the road. With no human passenger in the car, all the focus and complexity is on making other road users safe. The unique electric drivetrain that sits beneath the car’s aluminium parcel cell in its own subframe, creates a centre of gravity which keeps the vehicle fixed on the ground at all times.

We have a unique motor configuration which provides regenertive braking taking advantage of the weight of the parces in the vehicle. This, all controlled by algorithm makes it more efficient than any human driver allowing us to travel for as little as 1.2 pennies per mile.

SECURE DELIVERY

A SAFE ON WHEELS

The parcel cabin is designed to hold high value goods. It is so secure, it is best described as a safe-on-wheels. We designed and build a save way for the intended receiver to be the one who gets their parcel. Once verified, the parcel compartment opens up and the correct parcel is picked and handed to the receiver.

Hardware

We chose NVIDIA as a hardware partner due to their collaborative approach. They provide a unified architecture, where deep neural networks can be trained on a system in the datacenter, and then deployed in the car running the Drive PX Series hardware. The DGX series of servers reduce neural network training in time in the data center from months to just days. The resulting neural net model runs in real-time on DRIVE hardware inside the vehicle. In 2017 Academy of Robotics became a part of the Nvidia Inception Incubator. Nvidia Inception nurtures dedicated and exceptional startups who are revolutionizing industries with advances in AI and data science.

We are currently working with several corporate and commercial partners and are proud to be a part of NVIDIA’s Inception Incubator program. The UK Street legal Kar-go autonomous vehicle is scheduled for completion  at the beginning of the fourth quarter 2018.
